Southern Illinois Invasive Plant Strike Team
With funding from USDA Forest Service, Northeastern Area, State and Private Forestry, Forest Health Protection Program and the Illinois Department of Resources and with cooperation from the CWMA, The Nature Conservancy established a two-person team to work full time on monitoring and controlling invasive plants in Southern Illinois.
In the fall of 2008, the Southern Illinois Invasive Plant Strike Team was formed. The strike team is working to control invasive species in natural areas across the CWMA and keeps detailed records about the infestations and control methods using The Nature Conservancy's Weed Information Management System (WIMS). In addition to control of invasive species in natural areas, the strike team also responds to early detection events as well as control invasive species in pathways of spread and corridors that have the potential to spread invasive plants onto natural areas.
